Parts of this probably aren’t going to be as entertaining as you’ve all come to expect so be warned you may want to skip some of it 
First off, Nine Inch Nails on Monday night has probably been one of the highlights of my adventure in Germany so far even though I ended up going by myself. It was a really warm day and I felt like I’d managed to sweat out most of my body weight by the time I got to the place. The support band were called Mew they were pretty ok. NIN started about 21:15 they played Home first and then bang straight into Terrible Lie.

Highlights were Reptile, Wish, Mr. Self Destruct and Hurt which they finished up with. I managed to escape with minimal damage, a few bruises and some cigarette burns. Suffice to say I was pretty knackered the next day.
Now for the boring work stuff part. So it looks like I’ll be leaving Core & Access when I get back and moving to the Security department. For anyone who’s wonder what the deuce C&A is, it’s the set of groups that provide core and access networks to fixed line and mobile operators. In other words the networks that your mobile and house phones connect to (access networks) and the networks that do call switching (core networks). The group I’m moving into provide a few different services based around LI (lawful intercept….i.e. phone tapping) and ADRS (data retention).
There’s a few different reasons I want to move…..the main one being that I don’t see the wireline part of C&A being around for a whole lot longer, plus I’m more interested in security. I should be around Ireland for a little while at least while I go through some training courses with the new department. Also planning on doing some more Cisco stuff soon enough I just need to work up the motivation to get started on it.
Other than that there hasn’t been a whole lot happening. Someone who will remain nameless had a mishap with a couch during the week i.e. his couch ended up outside his apartment on the footpath replaced by one with a wet patch on it. It’s weird that this kind of stuff only happens to the person in question but hilarious for the rest of us.
I’ve also got my flights to Stockholm booked so I’m heading there on the 7th of August so that should be a good weekend. Other than that I’m thinking of heading to this crew (Some Girls Wander) on the 11th so I should find some people who’ll go along. That’s it from me for now…..time to have some pizza and then clean myself up. Pint time later…nice cold beer for me the weather in Aachen is far too warm lately.
